In this article the author talks about how social media has been able to help people that want to take action. She explains that it can be used for a lot of different occasions. Some people use it for personal gain and some use it for support. Examples she uses are the earthquake in Haiti, Kony 2012, and the bombing in Boston. While these things were happening people were able to help with campaigns through mobile resources. She explains how with the help of social media the FBI was able to find one of the suspects that contributed to the bombing in Boston. She says it’s “a very powerful argument for the value and power of social media.”

This article talks about how Facebook and other social tools keeps people informed of what’s going on in the world. An example the writer uses is Hurricane Sandy and the Boston bombing. She explains how “one-way communication” (the news) is no longer the only way to communicate. With disasters that occur around the world people are able to communicate and find their friends or family through social media. She explains that the advantage of having facebook or twitter has become something that can help people control situations a little better.

This article talks about young people in China who are becoming more involved with their country  through social media. It talks about an online resource used in China called “Weibo” that doesn’t have government control. The contributors of that group are able to add whatever content they like whether it’s legal or not. The only idea of control the government has established is monitoring and censoring the material that goes online. The article also talks about how in the future social media will possibly play a big part on political change because more will eventually be able to contribute their thoughts given the availability.

This article talks about #GivingTuesday. It was a campaign where people would give away, “a new day of giving after two days of getting”. This hash tag became the number one trend on twitter. The article talks about steps on how other people can create successful organizations through social media. This article is a great example of using social media for good change.

This article talks about a socio-economy. The writer gives examples on how social media has helped human needs. The writer says that in Egypt protest were able to take place due to the connections everyone there had. Another example the writer uses is the presidential campaign that took place in the U.S. Technology has provided social transformations that have helped in different cases. It offers “immediate reach, access, distribution, and human interaction regardless of location or economic condition.”
