Andrew Keen suggests that banning social media is one of the worse ideas ever, especially in office areas. The use of social media at work is considered “the new coffee break” according to Keen. Employee gets a chance to connect and make events through social media on their break time. One example Keen gives is that workers work at the office and relaxes at home. However, with social media available, workers can multitask to relax or to work. Keen argues that without social media, many workers and companies will have great disadvantage. One of the disadvantage for anyone is that most people uses Twitter as a place to read the news, uses Facebook to get ideas or brainstorm for companies and Linkedln as a networking site.

People in this century, especially young adults spend much of their time on social media. The older adults believe that the young adults waste much of their spending on social media. However, studies show that the young adults become smarter by using the social media. Because of the interaction with a wide audience and in taking new information online, people’s knowledge expands. When people interact more frequently over social media, they improve on their critical thinking, research and grammar structure. According to one of the researchers, Lunsford says that the use of social media does not damage neither a person’s sentence structure or grammar.

When it comes to business, expanding the company or source is one of the biggest goals, which brings them profit. The use of technology brings much of the success to many businesses. One of the strategies that most people in business use is the social media. There are many advantages using the social media. The social media is a source to most of their customers because people go on social networking sites very often. Advertisements are always around on the social media pages (eg. Facebook, Linkedln).  Customers can share information about the advertising pages to others around them. This allows the business to have a growing in customers.

As the year goes by, there have been questions on how the social media will change in 2014. In some offices and businesses areas, workers are required to take on social networking. Workers must use the social networks to coordinate and contact other business associations in order to get business done. Not only has the social change affected workers, it also affects a business itself. The business gains importance and more attention by using the social media. This varies when it comes to posting contents on their blogs to inform visitors on their site or profiles. Many businesses owners continue to make plans on how to gain attention by using the social media since most people uses it.

The social media is the source of information and news. It is used by the police to catch criminals too. In Washington when there was a crime committed, police officers were searching on the internet to find evidence of the criminal. Another example was that a police officer managed to catch the criminal when a hockey riot occurred in Vancouver. Investigators states that around a large audience, people who are bystanders are bound to post information on the internet. This makes investigations easier for investigators to obtain clues. There was a biking accident which someone posted on Youtube. The video shows that people were using their helmets as a weapon to damage the SUV. There have been many cases where videos or any type of evidence posted online helps investigators in many cases.
